Hey! I’m Karl.

KDB Inc. My ever evolving brainchild. It is the result of a creative way of doing things that for over the last 20 years has given me the opportunity to explore existing talents while learning and improving different skills. I have been able to weave these things into years of making things for clients, for friends, and for family. Being able to fluidly move from doing 3d based design and pre-viz work on the computer to moving that idea and my focus into the shop to make what was designed is an important part of what I do.

MY MISSION-

At a certain point the mission becomes a way of life. Normal and no big deal. You refine it, you polish it, you get rid of the things that don’t work. You move forward. Never mission accomplished. What’s mine?

Do your best at what you do and for whom (or who?) you do it.”

Since I was young I’ve wanted to make things… so I did, using the materials and things I could get my hands on. Pallets, old bicycles, scrap lumber… This is still at the heart of what I am doing these days along with an ongoing interest in the workings of things around me, like the light switch on the wall, the suspension on a trailer, or the escapement in a wrist watch. A never ending list of somethings waiting to be learned. Always with the idea of being open to using new materials, new techniques, new processes. Sometimes these things turn into a tried and true process.

On my relationship with you…

I aim to establish commitment and a connection with every person I work with. With that respect, the final product will be so much better and the process so much more enjoyable and rewarding for everyone involved. The best project eco-system is one which has a foundation based on quality workmanship, attention to detail, skilled craftsmanship, and thoughtful communication of ideas, concepts, problems, and solutions.

What I can do…

  • Residential and Commercial Design- Interior/Exterior

  • Product Design

  • 3d Design and 2d Technical Drawings- Autocad, Solidworks

  • 3d project visualization- Autocad, Solidworks, 3ds Max,Vray, Unreal Engine

  • Conversion 3d model to 3d printable file-(By product of 3d printing or 3d CNC work)

  • Larger format 3d printing. FDM 24” x 12” x 5”

  • 3D printed/CNC cut mock ups, samples, prototypes

  • Silicon/Polyurethane Mold making for casting resin and concrete

  • Accomplished builder in all phases of construction- Site specialties include finish work, cabinetry, furniture grade construction

  • Furniture and Cabinetry for home, office, boat

  • Built to Spec CNC Cut Cabinet Parts for assembly by client

  • Licensed, Bonded, Insured as General Contractor in Washington State

  • Steel fabrication

  • Composites- Fiberglass/Resin

TYING IT TOGETHER…

I am able to incorporate any or all of the above services into whichever portion of a project I am involved in. It often stars with Computer Design, which aids in conceptualization and engineering, actually giving everyone involved (Clients, Subcontractors, Creative Contributors) a real picture of what the project is about. Strong pre-visuals help make pre-construction design changes practical (and helps those changes make them make sense too)!

As pre-visualization work is tied closely to 3D models the usefulness of putting effort into this type of design process dovetails with the creation of working drawings. Subcontractors, shop drawings, or construction drawings for city or county, to name a few, are some of the people who benefit from strong visuals.

The 3D nature of my design process also means that creation of pieces of 3d machined artwork (CNC) or plasma or water jet cut steel, is almost as simple as sending off an email.

When turning to making the first cuts or gluing the first pieces together I have created an efficient and well sized /studio/shop where I build all offsite components. Cnc cutting, 3d printing, cabinetry, furniture, metal work and more.

And when it comes to working on- site, I can take these pieces, plans, or skills pretty much anywhere I need to go. Maybe into someone’s home or office, maybe into the shell of a structure with the move in date still a few months off, maybe the 5th floor of a downtown condo.
